How to Activate Your Stripe Account on Your WordPress Website in 5 Simple Steps

1. Ensure Stripe Plugin is Installed

  • If the Stripe plugin is already installed (your client may have this done), ensure it is activated.
  • Go to the Plugins section in the WordPress dashboard.
  • Locate the Stripe plugin (e.g., “WooCommerce Stripe Payment Gateway”) and click Activate if it’s not already activated.

2. Set Up a Stripe Account

(If you already have a Stripe account, skip to step 3)

  • Visit Stripe’s website to sign up.
  • Complete your business and personal registration details.

4. Configure Stripe in WordPress

  • Go to the WordPress dashboard, navigate to WooCommerce > Settings (or the plugin’s payment settings if not using WooCommerce).
  • Click on the Payments tab, locate Stripe, and click Manage.
  • To get your Publishable Key and Secret Key, log into your Stripe account, go to the Dashboard, then navigate to Developers > API Keys.
  • Copy the Publishable Key and Secret Key and paste them into the respective fields in your WordPress Stripe settings.
  • Enable the Stripe Payment Gateway by checking the Enable Stripe box.

5. Optional: Test the Payment Gateway

  • To test the integration, enable Test Mode in the Stripe settings (optional but recommended).
  • Use Stripe’s test card numbers to process mock payments.
  • Once testing is complete, disable Test Mode and switch to live keys.

6. Save Changes and Activate Stripe

  • After configuration, click Save Changes.
  • Stripe is now fully integrated, and you can begin accepting payments on your website.
